Third Army Corps Receives British RapidRanger SAM Systems

The Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Regiment “Aquila” of the Third Army Corps has shown British RapidRanger SAM systems for the first time.

The regiment published the relevant photos on its social media.

According to the regiment, this lightweight, highly automated SAM system fills the gap between mobile fire teams and heavier, less mobile anti-aircraft systems.

This is the first public appearance of RapidRanger systems in combat conditions. The systems shown in the photos are equipped with LMM missiles.

Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov published the first photo of a RapidRanger in Ukraine in late March.

Rapid Ranger

The RapidRanger SAM system is essentially an autonomous launcher weighing less than 500 kg that can be integrated onto any platform with sufficient payload capacity.

The Ukrainian systems are mounted on Spanish VAMTAC off-road vehicles.

It is equipped with daytime and thermal imaging cameras, allowing it to operate in low-light conditions and at night. The system also features automatic target tracking and a 360° surveillance sensor.

The system can be integrated with any command and control (C2) system.

Its target detection range exceeds 15 km, while its effective engagement range exceeds 7 km.

RapidRanger is equipped with four ready-to-fire missiles.

Depending on mission requirements, the system can be equipped with Starstreak 2 missiles, LMM missiles, or a combination of both. The missiles are guided exclusively by a laser beam.
