As a result of the strike, the Ukrainian Defense Forces significantly damaged the Progress Rocket and Space Center in Samara, Russia, which is the only facility in the Russian Federation engaged in the serial assembly of Soyuz-2 launch vehicles.
Satellite imagery was published by the monitoring community Exilenova+.
For the attack on the strategic facility, the Ukrainian military used domestically developed FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles.
Two impacts struck Building 106A, where Russian personnel assemble the rockets’ onboard electrical equipment, control systems, cable networks, and instrument compartments.
The destruction of this workshop will have a critical impact on the production process, as this is where the control system is installed and key onboard components are tested before final assembly.
Adjacent to the damaged building is Building 106B, which is designated for the final assembly of launch vehicles.
According to OSINT Varta, it is one of the key enterprises in Russia’s rocket and space industry.
The company develops and manufactures launch vehicles, including the Soyuz-2 family, as well as spacecraft.
Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicles are used to deploy the Rassvet communications satellites developed by the Russian company Bureau 1440.
On March 23 this year, this rocket placed 16 satellites of the system into orbit. In July, the Russian company Bureau 1440 launched the second batch of communications satellites.
As previously reported, the facility was attacked during the night of August 15. At around 2:51 a.m., a missile threat was declared in Samara Region, after which local residents reported explosions.
Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed a strike on one of the region’s industrial enterprises but did not identify the specific facility that was targeted.
