Russia Halts Production of Geran-3 Jet-Powered Drones — DIU

Russia has halted production of the Geran-3 jet-powered kamikaze drones.

This was reported to Militarnyi by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU).

The Geran-3 is a UAV developed using the airframe and components of the Geran-2. However, instead of a piston engine, it is powered by a Telefly JT80 jet engine.

The basic UAV airframe underwent only minimal modifications.

The propulsion system allows the drone to reach speeds of 300–370 km/h, while its operational range is up to 1,000 km.

The drone’s onboard equipment includes a SADRA inertial navigation system, an ADC pressure measurement unit, a PDU power distribution unit, and several other modules.

For navigation, the Geran-3 is equipped with a Kometa-M12 satellite navigation system resistant to electronic interference. It uses a 12-element CRPA adaptive antenna array.

This allows the UAV to counter the effects of electronic warfare systems.

According to the DIU, 45 foreign-made components have been identified in the Geran-3. Of these, 22 are manufactured in the United States, eight in China, seven in Switzerland, three in Germany, two in the United Kingdom, and one in Japan.

The Russians also installed a camera and video transmission system on the Geran-3 similar to those used on the Geran-2 of the “Ъ” series.

Overall, the Geran-3’s electronic architecture is almost identical to that of the gasoline-powered Geran-2 variants of the “Ы” series.

The Geran-3 family effectively served as a transitional stage toward the Geran-4. Its airframe was specifically designed to accommodate the Telefly LX-WP-160 jet engine.
