Five elite Russian divers were killed in the bay of Novorossiysk while attempting to investigate a Ukrainian drifting sea drone.

The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reported on this.

Most of the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s military ships are currently based there.

“A summer rumble in Novorossiysk: during an operation by the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in the Black Sea, one of the strike sea drones broke through to the bay of Novorossiysk, where the aggressor state Russia keeps the remnants of its Black Sea Fleet’s large ships,” the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine stated.

The intelligence officers reported that due to enemy electronic warfare measures, the Ukrainian sea drone lost connection with the control point and began drifting.

After some time, the local Russian command ordered the retrieval of the strike sea drone from the bay for investigation.

“A group of five elite naval divers-reconnaissance specialists from the Russian Navy’s so-called underwater sabotage forces and means was sent to carry out the task – a unit of highly skilled divers-reconnaissance personnel, whose training requires significant financial and time resources, and who are equipped with the best gear,” the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine clarified.

It is reported that during handling of the Ukrainian drone, it detonated. As a result of the explosion, all five elite Russian divers were killed.
