Powerful explosions were reported in the city of Kurgan, located in Russia’s Kurgan Region, where authorities also declared a drone alert.

The ChP Kurgan Telegram channel reported on this.

The drone alert was announced at 12:02 p.m. Kyiv time. It was not the first such warning in the region, with similar alerts previously issued on May 5 and May 29, 2026.

The Kurgan Region is an important industrial center and home to several major defense manufacturers. Among them is JSC Kurganmashzavod, one of Russia’s largest producers of military equipment. The plant manufactures BMP-2 and BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, as well as upgraded variants, in addition to civilian products such as snowmobiles, tracked all-terrain vehicles, and forestry machinery. Because of its role in supplying armored vehicles, the facility is considered strategically important to the Russian military.

According to an analysis of photos and videos published by Astra, smoke appears to be rising from the territory of the Kurganmashzavod plant, suggesting the facility may have been affected. However, there has been no official confirmation of the cause of the explosions or any damage to the plant.

The Kurgan Bus Plant manufactures buses and has accounted for around 30% of the Russian bus market during certain periods. Meanwhile, the Khimmash Plant specializes in the production of chemical engineering equipment. In addition, the region is home to enterprises that manufacture firefighting vehicles, supplying approximately 30% of Russia’s total production, as well as companies that produce steel bridges.

The pharmaceutical industry is represented by the Sintez plant, one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturers in Russia. It produces antibiotics, accounting for more than 30% of Russia’s total antibiotic output, and also manufactures other medicines and medical products.

Militarnyi previously reported that on May 29, 2026, a missile alert was declared for the first time in Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug due to a possible threat from Ukraine. The administrative center of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Salekhard, is located approximately 2,400 kilometers from Ukraine.
