The Estonian Ministry of Defense will allocate €5 million to support the IT Coalition aimed at enhancing Ukraine’s digital capabilities.
This funding is part of Estonia’s ongoing efforts to assist Ukraine, providing vital equipment to strengthen and expand the digital capabilities of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The announcement was made on the official website of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
In addition, the country will also direct the efforts of its defense industry to produce defense-related products, which will later be provided to Ukraine.
The IT Coalition was founded on September 19, 2023 — Estonia is taking the lead and began preparations to allocate the first financial package of €2.5 million, which was announced in December 2024.
Overall, the participating countries have already managed to raise over €500 million, with €482 million accumulated in 2024.
As of today, the coalition consists of 17 countries, including Belgium, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Finland, Sweden, Canada, as well as Estonia and Luxembourg — the leading countries.
In addition, Estonia is making a significant contribution to supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities by providing weapons.
Indeed, the formation of the new aid package was made possible by Ukraine providing Tallinn with a list of essential equipment, which will be procured from Estonian defense companies.
The list includes unmanned aerial vehicles, ground and maritime drones, medical equipment, and other supplies manufactured in Estonia.
Militarnyi previously reported that Estonia plans to raise its defense budget to at least 5% of GDP starting in 2026.
The countries signed a security agreement under which Estonia will allocate at least 0.25% of GDP annually in 2024-2027 for military assistance to Ukraine.
