Drones Strike Slavneft-YANOS, One of Russia’s Largest Oil Refineries

Ukrainian drones hit Russia’s Slavneft-YANOSoil refinery in the city of Yaroslavl on the morning of August 6.

OSINT analysts from Militarnyi identified the exact location of the fire by analyzing videos and photos published by Exilenova+.

By processing capacity, the facility ranks among the five largest oil refineries in Russia.

Footage captured by eyewitnesses shows thick black smoke rising over the refinery following the explosions, with multiple fires burning across the site.

Mikhail Yevrayev, Yaroslavl Region Governor, reported at around 3:00 a.m. that the region was under attack by Ukrainian drones.

He also wrote that traffic on the highway leading from Yaroslavl toward Moscow had been closed to ensure public safety.

Yaroslavl Oil Refinery

Slavneft-YANOS is the largest oil refinery in Russia’s Central Federal District. The refinery has the capacity to process up to 15 million metric tons of crude oil per year. The facility is located more than 700 kilometers (435 miles) from Ukraine’s state border.

The facility produces a wide range of petroleum products, including motor gasoline, jet fuel, and lubricants.

Its products are supplied to virtually all major enterprises in Russia’s Central and Northwestern regions, as well as to airports, the Northern Railway Administration, and facilities within the country’s military-industrial complex.

Ukrainian drones have targeted the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery on multiple previous occasions. Most notably, on the morning of July 16, an FP-1drone struck the refinery’s tank farm.

The day prior, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck Russia’s Bashneft-Novoil oil refinery in the city of Ufa, in the Republic of Bashkortostan, using drones.

The facility produces motor gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation fuel, lubricants, and other petroleum products.
