Drones Strike One of Russia’s Largest Oil Refineries in Yaroslavl – Slavneft-YANOS

Ukrainian drones struck Russia’s Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl overnight on May 8.

According to Astra, the oil refinery is among the five largest in Russia by processing capacity.

Videos shared by local residents show a large fire erupting at the refinery after the strike.

Slavneft-YANOS is the largest oil refinery in Russia’s Central Federal District and can process up to 15 million tons of oil annually.

The oil refinery is the main refining asset of OJSC Slavneft Oil and Gas Company, 99.7% of whose shares are jointly controlled on a parity basis by Rosneft and Gazprom.

Ukrainian drones have repeatedly targeted Slavneft-YANOS in the past. In particular, on April 26, drones struck facilities on the refinery’s grounds, causing another large fire. Another attack on the plant took place during the night of March 28.

The Yaroslavl oil refinery

The Yaroslavl refinery, Slavneft-YANOS, is located more than 700 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border.

The plant produces a wide range of petroleum products, from automotive gasoline to jet fuel and lubricants.

Its customers include nearly all major enterprises in Russia’s Central and Northwestern regions, as well as airports, the Northern Railway Administration, and facilities connected to the military-industrial complex.

Ukrainian strike drones also hit the Russian oil refinery Kirishinefteorgsintez (KINEF) in the city of Kirishi, the Leningrad region, during the night of May 5.

The oil refinery has an annual processing capacity of 20.1 million tons of oil. It is located about 790 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border. This was the fifth known attack on the Russian refinery.
