Drones Strike Afipsky Oil Refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai

On the night of August 25, Ukrainian drones struck the Afipsky Oil Refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, causing a fire to break out on the enterprise’s grounds.

The monitoring outlet Exilenova+ published footage of the fire.

In the morning, Veniamin Kondratyev, the region’s governor, confirmed the attack on the refinery.

He posted on Telegram that a fire broke out at the oil refinery in the Afipsky settlement.

According to him, at least 10 private homes in the settlement were damaged. This was likely the result of Russian air defense or electronic warfare systems’ work.

Footage released from the scene shows a glow from the flames and thick black smoke rising from the fire.

In addition, the governor stated that “debris” from the drone fell onto the grounds of the Afipsky railway station of the North Caucasus Railway. Subsequently, the Russian Federation’s Transport Prosecutor’s Office announced that operations at the station had been suspended.

Damaged Oil Refinery

The Afipsky Oil Refinery is one of the largest oil refineries in southern Russia, with an annual refining capacity of 6.25 million tonnes of crude oil, accounting for more than 2% of Russia’s total oil refining capacity.

The plant produces gasoline, diesel fuel, gas oil, vacuum gas oil, fuel oil, sulfur, and gas condensate distillates, and plays an important role in supplying the Russian economy and military with diesel fuel.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the facility has repeatedly been targeted by Ukrainian UAVs. In particular, the plant was attacked on the night of July 14.

These strikes are part of Ukraine’s campaign to target oil refineries, depots, and other facilities that transport oil and supply the Russian army with fuel.

Strike on Gas Processing Plant

On August 24, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully struck the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant, which is part of Gazprom’s processing division.

The plant’s main products include commercial gas, technical sulfur, stable gas condensate, gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, liquefied petroleum gases, and a broad fraction of light hydrocarbons.
