At night, the Ukrainian Defense Forces once again attacked the Rosneft’s Ryazan Oil Refining Company.
Photos and videos were published on the Telegram channels Supernova+ and Astra.
According to available information, the strike was directed at the ELOU-AVT-6 unit, a complex oil primary processing facility consisting of two main blocks.
The electro-desalting unit (ELOU) is designed to remove salts and water from crude oil before its further distillation. This is a critically important stage that prevents equipment corrosion and improves the quality of the final products.
The atmospheric-vacuum tubular unit (AVT) performs the primary distillation of oil. First, the oil is distilled at atmospheric pressure, and then the residues are distilled in vacuum mode, which allows for the production of fuel oil, gas oil, gasoline fractions, etc.
The nominal capacity of the unit is 6 million tons of oil per year. However, at many facilities, after modernization, the actual capacity can reach 12–15 million tons.
The Ryazan oil refinery is one of the largest in Russia.
In 2024, the plant processed approximately 13.1 million tons of oil (~262,000 barrels per day), which is about 5% of the country’s total oil refining volume.
Militarnyi previously reported on attacks on this plant.
The last strike was carried out on the morning of August 2nd, 2025. The drone strikes caused a large-scale fire on the refinery’s territory.
On August 4th, Reuters reported that the plant had suspended about half of its capacity.
According to the publication’s sources, two primary processing units (KDU-3 (8,600 metric tons per day) and KDU-4 (11,400 tons per day) were shut down after the drone attack.
