Belarus Accuses Lithuania of Airspace Violation by Drone

On 30 November, a drone crashed in Hrodna after dropping white-red-white flags.

Belarus’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the drone had crossed the border from Lithuania’s Lazdijai District and violated Belarusian airspace, Nasha Niva reports.

According to state media, the drone had a wingspan of 1.5 meters and a length of 91 cm. Inside, officials found navigation equipment, a video camera, and two 32-gigabyte memory cards.

There were markings on the propellers reading Aeronaut Camz Carbon and the address of the German manufacturer’s website, aeronaut.de.

The Belarusian police stated that the drone had scattered small white-red-white paper flags. Minsk called the incident a deliberate provocation.

The Foreign Ministry’s statement notes that Belarus demands that Lithuania provide detailed information, conduct an investigation, hold those responsible to account, and take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Erykas Vilkanecas, Lithuania’s chargé d’affaires ad interim, and delivered an official protest.
