Ukraine to Receive Long-Range Missiles Funded Through EU Loans

Ukraine will receive €1.5 billion in 2026 to purchase medium- and long-range missiles under a European Union defense loan program.

European Pravda reported the information, citing its own sources within the EU.

The funding is part of the third procurement package submitted by Ukraine, which lists the military equipment, weapons, and ammunition the country intends to purchase using the EU loan.

The missiles are intended for long-range strike missions, including attacks on facilities belonging to Russia’s military industry.

According to the media’s sources, the missiles will be produced by a joint venture involving Ukraine and an unnamed European Union member state. The identity of the EU country has not yet been disclosed.

It is also not yet known whether the missiles in question will be cruise missiles or ballistic missiles.

Under the EU’s €90 billion defense loan program, Ukraine could receive nearly €40 billion by the end of 2026, according to current plans. This includes €23.4 billion for the Armed Forces’ most urgent defense needs and €13.5 billion in budget support.

As previously reported, Ukraine will be allowed to use funds from the EU defense loan program to purchase British-made weapons.

The European Union has also approved Ukraine’s use of part of the first tranche of the defense loan to purchase Chinese-made components for drone production.

In June, European defense giant MBDA signed a memorandum of understanding with Ukraine’s Luch Design Bureau to jointly develop the Neptune-2 cruise missile.
