Lithuania has called on European countries to significantly increase and accelerate military aid to Ukraine over the next six to nine months.

Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas made this statement ahead of an informal meeting of European Union defense ministers in Ireland, according to Ukrinform.

The Defense Minister emphasized that allies must seize the current moment to step up arms deliveries and increase defense investments.

“We have a window of opportunity lasting six to nine months. Ukraine is currently repelling Russia, striking back, and launching counterattacks. And we, Europe, must accelerate our support for Ukraine,” Robertas Kaunas said.

According to the official, the European community must respond much more quickly to the critical needs of Ukrainian defense forces on the battlefield.

The Minister also identified the joint fight against Russia’s shadow fleet operations as a separate, important political and security challenge for Europe.

Roberta Kaunas assured that comprehensive support for Ukraine will remain a key priority during Lithuania’s upcoming presidency of the EU Council, which begins on January 1.
