The Czech company CSG and the South African company Reunert will launch production of electronic fuses for artillery shells in Slovakia.

The Czechoslovak Group told Militarnyi that the plant will be named Fuchs Electronics Europe.

The new enterprise will be 51% owned by Reunert and 49% by CSG.

The South African company Fuchs Electronics, part of the Reunert Group and a recognized manufacturer of electronic fuses, will serve as the enterprise’s technology partner.

Thanks to the investment in Fuchs Electronics Europe, the CSG Group will become one of the few manufacturers of electronic fuses within the European Union.

Production will be located at the ZVS site in Dubnica nad Vágom, making full use of CSG’s existing infrastructure.

The project is an important step in the further vertical integration of large-caliber ammunition production within the CSG manufacturing base.

It will expand the company’s technological capabilities and add a critically important component of modern artillery ammunition to them.

The new facility will operate as an independent manufacturer of electronic fuses and will supply them not only to CSG but also to other European ammunition manufacturers.

Localizing production within the European Union will also help strengthen supply chain security.

Electronic fuse

The fuse determines both the timing and the method of detonation.

In modern 155 mm ammunition, electronic fuses have already become the standard, providing several modes of operation: instantaneous detonation upon impact, delayed action, time-delayed detonation, or airburst at a precisely defined altitude above the target. Compared to mechanical solutions, they offer greater accuracy, greater flexibility, and better integration with modern fire control systems.

Their production is technologically complex, characterized by high added value, and is of strategic importance to ammunition manufacturers.
