The U.S. Department of State has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale of over 3,000 ERAM cruise missiles to Ukraine, with the total deal valued at $825 million.

According to an official press release from the State Department, Ukraine intends to acquire up to 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) missiles, along with a full set of navigation systems – GPS and INS – in matching quantities.

The delivery package also includes missile containers, stoker pylons, component parts and support equipment, spare parts, consumables, as well as maintenance and repair services.

In addition, personnel training programs, as well as engineering and logistical support, are provided.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe,” the statement emphasizes.

Ukraine will use funding from Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway and Foreign Military Financing from the United States for this purchase.

The principal contractors will be Zone 5 Technologies and CoAspire.

As previously reported, under the ERAM program, defense companies have been working on a next-generation munition designed for deployment from aerial platforms. This subsonic missile can reach speeds of up to 200 m/s and boasts an impressive range of at least 250 nautical miles (463 km).

Weighing in at 500 pounds (approximately 250 kg), the missile features a sophisticated warhead that combines both penetrating and fragmentation-explosive effects. It is equipped with a multi-mode fuze, allowing for greater flexibility and effectiveness against a range of targets.

The missile’s accuracy is notably high, with a circular error probable (CEP) of up to just 10 meters. Particular focus has been placed on the resilience of its navigation system, which is engineered to function reliably even under intense electronic warfare and GPS-denied environments.

One of the standout developments under the program is the Rapidly Adaptable Affordable Cruise Missile (RAACM), a jet-powered cruise missile manufactured using advanced 3D printing technologies — a move that significantly reduces cost and production time.

Zone 5 Technologies, another key contributor to the program, has also developed its own missile known as the Rusty Dagger, further expanding the capabilities and diversity of the ERAM arsenal.

Both missiles feature a modular and scalable design. Modularity allows for the rapid integration of new capabilities to enhance survivability and combat effectiveness, including the ability to quickly swap out the warhead.

The missile is designed for use in larger configurations across various platforms – whether launched from the air, land, or sea – providing a high degree of versatility.
