Russia Struck a Ukrainian Navy Ship

The Ukrainian Navy has confirmed a strike on a Ukrainian ship and the death of one sailor. Russians claim to have hit the Simferopol reconnaissance ship.

Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk reported this in a comment to Ukrinform.

“Regarding the information about the defeat of one of the ships of the Ukrainian Navy: we confirm the fact of the attack on the ship, we are currently eliminating the consequences of the attack,” Pletenchuk said.

The attack killed one crew member and wounded several others, and the search for several sailors continues. The rest of the crew is safe.

On the morning of August 28, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the use of a naval drone against the Simferopol medium-sized reconnaissance ship, which was at the mouth of the Danube.

The Russian ministry also claimed that the ship was sunk, but this information remains unconfirmed.

Simferopol is a medium-sized reconnaissance ship of the Laguna project. It was built by the Ukrainian shipbuilding company Kuznya na Rybalskomu at the order of the Ukrainian Navy in 2019.

It was launched on April 23, 2019, and entered the fleet in 2021.

In July 2023, it was reported that the ship had undergone modernization and was equipped with a 30 mm AK-306 artillery system.
