Nordic Countries Agree to Use Same Ammunition

Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark have agreed to use the same artillery ammunition.

The decision to fully standardize ammunition was made to increase its production and the possibility of using different types of artillery systems.

This primarily concerns 155 mm ammunition, which should be suitable for self-propelled and trailed artillery systems, as well as 81 mm and 120 mm mortar rounds.

It should be noted that the Scandinavian countries currently use 155 mm artillery as a standard, but most of the shells are not suitable due to their size, processing and quality.

Additionally, countries have different artillery systems, for example, Norway and Finland use South Korean K9 Thunder, Sweden uses the domestic Archer system, and Denmark uses the Israeli ATMOS 2000.

A similar situation with mortar systems would allow for the use of Finnish or Israeli mortars in the event of war.

In addition to quality compliance, this will significantly reduce the cost of their production and procurement in the future, as countries will make joint purchases.

Also, as part of the increase in the annual production of artillery shells, the Finnish company Forcit will build a TNT plant in the city of Pori.

The cost of the project is estimated at more than €200 million, which will increase both domestic shell production capacity and exports.

Earlier, Militarnyi reported that the Czech Czechoslovak Group had opened a new ammunition production facility in the United States.

The newly formed division specializes in the maintenance, repair and production of medium and large caliber ammunition. The company aims to become one of the key supply chains for the US Armed Forces and gain a foothold in this sector.
