Poland Shows Updated RAK M120 Self-Propelled Mortar on Borsuk Chassis

The RAK M120 120mm self-propelled mortar on a Borsuk tracked chassis was presented at the MSPO 2024 Defense Industry Exhibition in Poland.

The newest combat vehicle is designed to fire indirectly, semi-directly, and directly to destroy enemy objects, fortifications, equipment, and personnel.

The turret was modified: the barrels became 76.2 centimeters (30 inches) longer and the rate of fire was increased from 6-8 to 10-12 rounds per minute.

In addition, the location of the crew of the mortar has changed; moreover, the number of crewmembers has been reduced.

The tracked chassis remains buoyant despite the installation of the mortar, its ammunition, and other equipment.

According to the manufacturer, there is an opportunity to increase the survivability of combat vehicles by installing an active protection system.

The basic equipment includes an electric generator, a self-defense system, an omnidirectional surveillance system, an inertial navigation system, and GPS with a SAASM module. One of the most interesting elements is the reconnaissance drone launcher installed on the turret.

An ICT system, a fire protection and fire extinguishing system, a remotely controlled weapon station, a heating and air conditioning system, a direct aiming sight with a laser rangefinder, and armor with ballistic protection are also included in the package.

Recall that the previous version of the mortar on the Borsuk chassis was shown back in 2021.

Rak self-propelled 120mm mortar on the chassis of the Rosomak armored personnel carrier is in service with the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

The delivery of Rak self-propelled mortars to the Polish army began after the signing in 2016 of the first contract for 8 company sets. After that, additional mortars were ordered with deliveries in 2022-2024.
