In Russia, work is ongoing on a TOS-3 new heavy flamethrower system.
Militarnyi reported about this.
Recently, the Russian plant – the developer of the Omsktransmash system registered a new trademark.
The new multiple rocket launcher was named TOS-3 Drakon (Dragon – ed.).
It is created on the basis of existing TOS-1 and TOS-2 systems, which Russians are actively using in the war with Ukraine.
A possible schematic image of the future flamethrower system was published on the network.
Judging by the image, the TOS-3 will be based on a tank tracked chassis, like its predecessors TOS-1 and the TOS-1A Solntsepek, while the launcher will be borrowed from the TOS-2 Tosochka, which has its own ammunition loading mechanism that facilitates reloading.
According to the image, each Drakon launcher will be able to launch 15 unguided rockets with an incendiary or thermobaric warhead.
It is currently unknown at what stage the project is located and how long it will take occupiers to implement it and possibly establish serial production.
Russians are actively using the TOS-1A Solntsepyok against the Defense Forces of Ukraine. This system is forced to approach very close to the front line due to the fact that its maximum range of fire is only 6 kilometers.
The Ukrainian military has repeatedly destroyed and captured these flamethrower systems and their transport and load vehicles.
Russians also use a wheeled version of the TOS-2 Tosochka MRL, which is made on the basis of a Ural-63706 truck with a 6×6 wheel arrangement. Unlike TOS-1 and TOS-1A that use tracked chassis of the T-72 or T-90 tanks respectively.
