The EU Council agreed to allocate an additional EUR 194 million to fund the EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine).
The European Council’s website reports that the total budget for training programs for Ukrainian military personnel within the mission will increase to EUR 255 million.
The decision is aimed at continuing EUMAM’s support in building the capacity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“The financial amount is increased by €194 million totalling €255 million,” it is noted.
To date, over 34 thousand Ukrainian servicemen have been trained within EUMAM Ukraine.
As reported, the EU decided to create the EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine on October 17, 2022, for a period of up to two years.
In August 2023, the Ukrainian authorities recognized an important contribution provided by EUMAM Ukraine and asked to expand the training.
EUMAM Ukraine was to be expanded for the National Guard, the State Border Service, the National Police, and the Security Service of Ukraine under the operational control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Within the EU training mission, Germany also trains the Ukrainian military in decontamination after the use of nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare and poisonous substances.
The training is conducted on special HEP 70 decontamination vehicles, six of which have already been handed over to Ukraine by Germany.
“We are dealing with highly motivated soldiers who do not stop learning after eight hours but train and study in the morning until late in the evening,” the German instructor shared.
In turn, the UK equipped 30 thousand servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who were trained in Britain.
