The defense forces have, for the first time, hit the Russian 2S40 Flox self-propelled howitzer/mortar carrier, a batch of which was received only in early October.

The corresponding video was shared on social media.

It is known that the first batch of these wheeled self-propelled howitzer/mortar carriers in an undisclosed amount was transferred only a day before the publication of the video, as reported by Russian media.

The footage shows the detection of a Russian artillery system by a Ukrainian FPV drone and its being hit in the aft part while driving on the road.

There are no objective control frames to assess the impact of the hit. Presumably, the warhead of the drone could disable the gun or cause a fire.

The self-propelled howitzer/mortar was probably hit near the line of contact, given its maximum range of fire of 8 kilometers with conventional 120mm mortar rounds.

2S40 Flox

2S40 Flox is a Russian self-propelled wheeled artillery system with a 120mm mortar/howitzer, designed to suppress enemy manpower, weapons and equipment.

The artillery part of the self-propelled guns is mounted on the chassis of the Ural-4320 army armored truck with a wheel arrangement of 6×6.

The system is able to elevate the barrel in the range from -2 to +80 degrees Celsius, which allows it to fire on a high trajectory (like a howitzer), fire mortar rounds almost vertically (like a mortar), or perform direct fire (like a gun).

For shooting, the ACS uses the entire range of Soviet, Russian and Western 120mm mortar rounds, including long-range rocket-assisted shells and guided ones. Its ammunition is 60 shells.

It is noted that the 120mm mortar round in its striking action and destructive capacity is similar to artillery 152-155mm shells. However, the range of Flox fire is limited to 8 kilometers with conventional mortar rounds and to 10 kilometers with long-range ammunition.

The armored vehicle itself is also equipped with a remote machine gun mount for self-defense, which is installed above the crew cabin.
