The Russian military has lost another Ka-52 attack helicopter under unknown circumstances.

Russian sources associated with the Russian armed forces reported on this.

According to the available information, it is clear that the helicopter malfunctioned during the flight and that the incident occurred in non-combat conditions.

According to the reports, both helicopter crew members ejected in time.

The place where the episode took place was not disclosed, but it is known that it happened on September 1. Traditionally, the official version from the Russian Defense Ministry is unlikely to be made public.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, the Russian armed forces have lost 42 attack helicopters of this type under various circumstances. The Ukrainian military managed to capture one damaged Ka-52 in February 2022.

Losses of Russian aviation

This is not the first time that Russian military pilots have lost their own aircraft due to negligence or technical malfunctions.

Earlier, on March 16, another Russian Ka-52 belonging to the 55th Helicopter Regiment crashed after hitting a power line. Both pilots were unable to eject and burned to death.

There have also been cases where Russian air defense has shot down its own aircraft over Ukraine. For example, in December last year, a Ka-52 helicopter was shot down by a Russian Pantsir-S1 system in the Zaporizhzhia region. The helicopter managed to land, and the crew was rescued.

The cause of the self-shelling is unknown, as all Russian combat aircraft are equipped with friend-or-foe recognition systems. A possible reason could be the failure of elements of this system.

Russian aircraft were also lost due to technical malfunctions. One such example was the crash of a Su-25 attack aircraft that was flying on a combat mission but crashed in the Belgorod region.

According to locals, the attack aircraft fell on a hay barn, leading to a fire, and consequently the building burned down. The pilot ejected and was taken to the hospital. One of the published photos on social media shows a plane with the registration number RF-95143 with the tail number 37 “yellow”.
