The United States has developed a special plan for the accelerated deployment of the Patriot SAM system in Ukraine.
Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs, shared this in his interview with the Associated Press.
According to him, Ukrainian troops will undergo training on a faster pace than usual “without any damage to the quality of the use of this weapon on the battlefield.”
While Kuleba didn’t mention a specific time frame, he mentioned that it will take “very much less than six months” while the training usually takes up to a year.
The Minister added that the training of the Ukrainian military to operate the American Patriot air defense system will be done “outside” Ukraine.
Kuleba also stated that he was “absolutely satisfied” with the results of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the United States last week.
The visit was his first foreign trip since the full-scale Russian invasion on February 24 of this year.
As previously reported, the Pentagon is considering training the Ukrainian servicemen to operate the Patriot missile defense system at a military base in the United States, rather than in Europe.
Such reports appeared the day after the announcement of the supply of one Patriot battery to Ukraine to help defend against Russian attacks and airstrikes.
Though the Pentagon would not specify exactly when the training would begin or how long it would take to master the air defense system, a senior defense official shared that it would start “very soon” and would take “several months.”
According to the Pentagon, the Patriot system costs between $450 and $550 million, depending on the platform configuration. Each missile costs approximately $4 million.
As previously reported, on December 21, the United States announced another military aid package for Ukraine. In particular, it included one battery of the Patriot air defense battery and munitions.
