The United States will announce a $3 billion military aid package to Ukraine on August 24.
Associated Press reported, citing US officials.
The assistance funds will be used to finance contracts for drones, weapons, and other equipment that will be ordered to industry and will take time to manufacture.
“U.S. officials said that the package is expected to be announced Wednesday, the day the war hits the six-month mark and Ukraine celebrates its Independence Day,” Associated Press sources informed.
CNN reporter Natasha Bertrand said that the package will also include air defense systems.
Unlike most previous packages, the new funding will be mainly aimed at helping Ukraine ensure its medium- and long-term defense capabilities.
Presumably, this package will also include a future contract with AeroVironment for the Switchblade 600 UCAVs.
The contract for the first 10 Switchblade 600 drones with AeroVironment must be signed within a month.
Previous deliveries were focused on Ukraine’s more urgent needs for weapons and ammunition, as well as on material assets that the Pentagon already has in stock and can be sent as soon as possible.
The new package also aims to assure Ukrainian officials that the United States intends to continue its support.
Recently, US President Joe Biden approved military assistance to Ukraine for $775 million.
The package will include defense goods and Pentagon services, as well as military education and training of the Ukrainian military.
