In the near future, Lithuania will provide Ukraine with additional military support such as armored vehicles and instructors.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive from Lithuania М113 armored personnel carriers and М577 Command Post Carrier, which Ukraine needs urgently.
Ukraine will also receive ammunition and other necessary support for reserve training.
According to Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas, М113 is becoming an important part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Lithuania makes a significant contribution to this.
The Lithuanian army is considering sending up to 10 instructors to the UK, which intends to conduct basic military training for 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers in the next three months.
Lithuania has already transferred to Ukraine Stinger MANPADS, anti-tank weapons, body armor and helmets, 120-mm mortars, small arms, ammunition, thermal imagers, drones, anti-drones, surveillance radars, M113 APC, trucks and SUVs.
In 2016, Lithuania purchased 168 German М577 APCs from the arsenal of the German army, spending a total of 1.6 million euros on this.
Representatives of the defense ministry of Lithuania and Germany signed a corresponding agreement in Vilnius in 2016.
According to the agreement, the Lithuanian army received М577 Command Post Carrier in several batches over the next two years.
Bundled with the vehicles, the Bundeswehr also gave the Lithuanian partners spare parts, tools for maintenance and equipment for the crew.
In 2019, the German enterprise FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH won a tender organized by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to modernize 22 M577 APCs the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
Retrofitted M577 can be used to combat control PzH 2000 howitzers.
