Earlier this month, Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that in 2024, Germany will provide Ukraine with military goods worth more than seven billion euros.

Scholz made this statement during a telephone conversation with U.S. President Joseph Biden on January 16, 2024.

At the beginning of 2024, Germany handed over ammunition for Leopard 1 tanks and armored vehicles to the Ukrainian military.

As previously reported, in November 2023, the Government of Ukraine signed a contract with the German company Rheinmetall to produce a new batch of Leopard 1 tanks for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This contract is for the repair and modernization of 25 Leopard 1A5 tanks, five Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicles, and two training tanks for driver training.

It is financed by Germany with a value in the upper-two-digit million-euro range.

Delivery is due to take place in 2024. The Leopard 1 systems are currently being overhauled and ready for use at Rheinmetall’s plants in Unterlüß and Kassel.

In addition to the preparation of Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks and special equipment based on them, the company continues to deliver the previously announced Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles.
