The Defense Procurement Agency has signed contracts to supply 1,500 motorcycles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is three times as much as was purchased over the entire previous year, and all equipment is expected to be delivered by the end of 2026.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced this.

According to him, motorcycles remain among the most widely used modes of transport at the front, alongside pickup trucks.

“Motorcycles provide units with high mobility and allow them to quickly perform combat missions in complex logistics conditions, rough terrain, and off-road environments,” Fedorov emphasized.

The procurement was conducted through a competitive tender involving six companies. Competition among participants reduced contract costs and secured more favorable terms for the state.

As a result of the auction, the state saved nearly UAH 12 million in budget funds.

The saved funds are expected to be redirected to additional support for the Defense Forces, including the purchase of other necessary vehicles for units.

The Ministry of Defense said this approach is already being used in other large-scale procurement programs. The largest purchase of 155 mm artillery ammunition was conducted in a similar way.

Competitive procedures, according to the Ministry, allow both cost reduction and increased volumes of military support within the same budget.

The institution plans to gradually increase the share of defense procurement conducted through open tenders.

Fedorov stated that scaling the modern procurement system is one of the Defense Ministry’s key priorities.

Motorcycles have increasingly been used by Ukrainian forces for equipment delivery, communications between positions, casualty evacuation, and rapid movement of personnel in certain sectors of the front.

Militarnyi previously reported on the integration of light vehicles into service in the Defense Forces, including motorcycles, buggies, and jet skis.
