Ghana has shown keen interest in Ukrainian technologies, especially drones designed for surveillance and border security.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this following his conversation with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.

The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and explored promising areas for partnership, including collaboration in the agricultural sector and military cooperation.

“Special attention was given to cooperation in the field of advanced technologies, particularly UAVs. Ghana is interested in acquiring Ukrainian models for monitoring and surveillance to maintain security along its borders with the Sahel region,” the statement said.

Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine was open to such cooperation and wanted to help its partners strengthen the security of their borders against the terrorist threat posed by Islamist jihadists.

The President thanked John Dramani Mahama for the invitation to visit Ghana and invited him to come to Ukraine for a visit. The presidents agreed to organize a meeting at the ministerial level to begin working on expanding practical cooperation in the near future.

In the north, Ghana borders Burkina Faso, where a pro-Russian junta came to power following a coup in 2022. Additionally, Islamist jihadists operate in the northern desert region, fighting against Burkina Faso and using Ghana’s border areas as a logistical hub.
