The Canadian military completed the last training series of exercises for Ukrainian forces as part of Operation UNIFIER in 2022.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported about this.

In 2022, UNIFIER training took place in the United Kingdom. Instructors from Canada and Great Britain joined forces to train the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

Exercises under this program are planned to be resumed in 2023.

The servicemen studies combat first aid and evacuation of the wounded from the battlefield, field craft, marksmanship, explosive threat awareness and recognition, and urban warfare training in practice.

Operation UNIFIER was launched in 2015 at the request of the Ukrainian government. Early this year, it was expanded and extended until March 2025.

At the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the mission was paused with a commitment to resume training when and where conditions permitted.

The General Staff notes that since February 2022, Canada has committed or delivered $626 million in military assistance to Ukraine, including M777 howitzer artillery guns with replacement barrels and compatible ammunition, along with specialized drone cameras and Armoured Combat Support Vehicles, and associated training.

In total, since 2015, Canadian instructors have trained over 33,000 Armed Forces of Ukraine servicemen.

“It is abundantly clear that training is a critical component to sustaining Ukraine’s capacity to defend itself in short to long term. Building on the Canadian Armed Forces’ already close relationship with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Canada is proud to work alongside like-minded nations such as the United Kingdom to further support their training needs.” – General Wayne Eyre, Chief of the Defence Staff.

As previously reported, about 10,000 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently undergoing training in Great Britain as part of the INTERFLEX operation.

This week, the new EUMAM Ukraine European Union training mission for the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reached full operational readiness. The plan is to train 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers in two years through this mission.
