SES Helicopters Involved in Aftermath of Strike on Kyiv

Helicopters of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine have been deployed to extinguish fires that broke out after a Russian strike on Kyiv last night.

The press service of the State Emergency Service reported this on social media.

The official photos released capture a Mi-8 helicopter and an Airbus H225 Super Puma helicopter dropping water on the fire from an external sprinkler (helicopter bucket).

This is a special tank for transporting water or other extinguishing agents carried under the fuselage.

As of noon, the helicopters have made more than 50 water drops, totaling more than 100 tons.

On the night of June 17, Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, 440 attack drones and imitation drones were launched.

Of these, 239 Shahed-type UAVs were shot down by firepower, and another 163 were locally lost/suppressed by electronic warfare (EW).

The invaders’ tactical aviation fired nine X-59/69 missiles and one X-31P anti-radar missile, which were intercepted. Also, Russian MiG-31Ks fired 2 X-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, one of which was intercepted.

The aggressor country’s ships and strategic aviation fired 4 Kalibr cruise missiles and 16 X-101 missiles, respectively. Of these, only 15 X-101 missiles were intercepted, and one fell in the capital. A missile equipped with a cluster warhead scattered submunitions among residential buildings.

The attack damaged a large number of residential buildings in eight districts of Kyiv.

As of 13:30, 14 people have been reported dead and 105 injured. Identification of the bodies is ongoing.

Search and rescue operations continue at the site. In total, more than 450 rescuers, more than 100 units of SES equipment, and dog teams are involved in the response to the aftermath of Russian strikes on the capital.
