Satellite Images Show Giant Crater, Likely From Flamingo Missile in Crimea

Satellite images appear to show the aftermath of a Ukrainian Flamingo strategic cruise missile strike on a Federal Security Service facility in occupied Crimea.

Telegram channel Exilenova+ published the footage.

According to the report, the images show an FSS site in Armyansk. The satellite identified two areas of damage: one directly on the building and another nearby.

A large crater is visible on the coast near the facility, reportedly formed by the detonation of a warhead weighing about one ton.

A third crater is also visible within the site, but due to the limited resolution of the imagery, it is unclear whether it is in fact a crater, a tree, or a photographic artifact.

In late August, it emerged that damage to the FSS outpost and patrol boats near Armyansk was caused by new Flamingo cruise missiles rather than Neptune missiles.

The attack took place on the morning of August 30, 2025. According to the Astra, which initially attributed the strike to Neptune missiles, six hovercraft patrol boats were damaged, and one serviceman was killed.

It was not specified which boats were hit. However, FSS border units in northern Crimea are known to use A-8 Khivus hovercraft, which can carry up to eight troops, as well as A25PS models designed to transport 30-50 people.

Flamingo

The Flamingo missile was first presented on August 17, when Associated Press photojournalist Yefrem Lukatsky published the first photos of it on his Facebook page.

According to available data, the Flamingo carries a 1,150-kg warhead and has a range of more than 3,000 km. It is designed to resist Russian electronic warfare, has a top speed of 950 km/h, and is built with a fiberglass composite body.

Current production is said to be one missile per day, with plans to scale up. Each Flamingo missile costs less than €1 million.

On August 20, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that tests of the Flamingo had been successful, and mass production would begin early next year. He noted that the pace of the program depends directly on funding.
