Russian Major General Grunis Killed by Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces – Madiar

Russian Major General Anton Grunis, whose death was previously reported without details about how he died, was killed by Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces in the Russian-occupied part of the Donetsk region.

Ukrainian SDF Commander Robert Brovdi said the 427th Unmanned Systems Brigade “Rarog” executed the operation on the night of September 12, 2026.

OSINT analyst Dominik identified the strike site in the occupied city of Horlivka and published the coordinates: 48.306265, 38.203961.4.

The commander released a video showing nighttime drone strikes on buildings. However, the footage itself does not show which building Grunis was in. Brovdi said Grunis was the seventh confirmed Russian military commander at the brigade, division, or army level to have been killed by units of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces.

Previously, the Russian Suvorovskoye Brotherhood Telegram channel reported Grunis’s death but did not provide the cause, date, or location of his death. At the time, Militarnyi reported that the general commanded Russia’s 4th Motor Rifle Brigade.

The formation was created in 2014 from armed groups of the so-called “Luhansk People’s Republic” (LPR), including the Prizrak unit. After being incorporated into the Russian military, the brigade became part of the 2nd Army Corps and later the 3rd Guards Combined Arms Army of Russia’s Southern Military District.

Units of the brigade fought in the Luhansk region near Toshkivka and Hirskе. They were later redeployed to the Donetsk region, where they took part in assault operations near Chasiv Yar and on the approaches to Kostiantynivka.
