The Russian Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant produced a batch of Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jets for the Russian Ministry of Defense.

This was reported by Rostec Corporation.

The report stated that the aircraft was transferred to the military department “as part of this year’s supply program.”

“This aircraft is the future of Russian combat aviation. It embodies advanced technologies and design solutions. It is super-maneuverable, stealthy, can destroy air and ground targets, detect the enemy at long distances and act in conditions of net-centric warfare. Composite materials are widely used in its airframe, and the aircraft is equipped with the latest onboard equipment,” said Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov.

Yuriy Slyusar, CEO of the corporation, also stated that in addition to SU-57, Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant manufactured a batch of Su-35S multi-role fighter jets for the Russian Air Force.

“We will continue to meet our commitments. Aircraft scheduled to be delivered next year are already being manufactured,” he added.

Su-57 production

Back in 2020, the Aircraft Plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur faced problems while producing the Su-57 fighter jets.

Then, at the initial stage of work, discrepancies were found in the areas of assembly of the nose and under-cabin compartments, assembly of the fuselage, and testing and delivery of the product to serial production.

However, this did not prevent attempts to modernize the production line. This process has not yet been completed. This information was indirectly announced by Rostec’s CEO in his speech.

“Currently, KnAAZ named after Gagarin in Komsomolsk-on-Amur is implementing a large-scale modernization project that will significantly increase the production of these combat aircraft,” Sergey Chemezov said.

In August 2018, at the Army-2018 Military-Technical Forum, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation signed a contract with the Sukhoi Company PJSC to supply the first two serial Su-57 fighter jets.

The term of delivery according to the contract was 2018-2020. The plans were to supply one aircraft in 2019 and one in 2020. In June 2019, at the Army-2019 Forum, an additional contract was signed to supply 76 Su-57 fighter jets (including the first two). The duration of the contract is until 2027.

The first Su-57 serial fighter jet (Т-50S-1 aircraft, serial number 51001, tail number “01”) started flying in early December 2019.

The Russian industry delivered two more fighter jets for the Russian Aerospace Forces in the fourth quarter of 2021.
