The American company Oshkosh Defense has received an additional order to supply heavy transport vehicles to the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces.
The order was placed through Optimum Vehicle Logistics, which is Oshkosh’s official distributor in the country, the company reported.
The new contract calls for the delivery of 50 M1070A1 heavy-duty trucks and 50 MN573 (EHETS M1300/M1302) specialized heavy-duty semi-trailers.
The Oshkosh M1070A1 tractor, with an 8×8 wheel configuration, is equipped with a 700-k.s. Caterpillar C18 diesel engine and a six-speed Allison automatic transmission.
The vehicle is capable of operating as part of a road train with a gross weight of up to 109 metric tons, enabling the transport of tanks, artillery, and repair and recovery vehicles.
The tractor’s cab features ballistic protection, is designed for a three-person crew, and is equipped with two winches with a combined pulling force of 45.3 metric tons.
The MN573 semi-trailers were developed in partnership with the Dutch company Broshuis B.V. and are manufactured at its production facilities.
They feature hydraulic suspension and PL2 pendulum axles with steering wheels.
The first batch of M1070A1 tractor units, as per a preliminary agreement, has already been delivered to Morocco and is in active service with units of the Armed Forces.
The Moroccan Army will be able to use these truck trains to transport American M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams main battle tanks. In addition, the M1070A1 and MN573 systems are capable of transporting 155-mm CAESAR self-propelled artillery systems, M109A5s, and M88A2 Hercules armored recovery vehicles.
In January, Oshkosh Defense was awarded a contract by the U.S. Army to supply an additional 97 FMTV A2 LVAD trucks in 6×6 and 4×4 configurations.
The agreement also includes kits for Arctic operations.
