Russia closed its airspace in Saratov region

Russia has closed the airspace in the Saratov region after reports of an attack on a military airfield in the region.

The Russian media reported about this.

On the morning of December 29, footage of air defense operations in the vicinity of the Engels military airbase in the Saratov region appeared in the mass media.

Later, the governor of the region, Roman Busargin, confirmed that the air defense system had worked on the territory of the Engels district.

Currently, planes are forced to fly around Saratov and Penza, over which flight is also prohibited.

The military air base of the Russian strategic aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces in Engels has already been attacked twice.

The Militarnyi reported the attack on December 5. An unknown drone attacked an airfield in the Saratov region in the morning. At that time, the Russians asserted that an unknown aircraft crashed on the runway where the strategic bombers were based. According to the Russians, the explosion damaged two planes.

Later, on the night of December 26, explosions occurred at the Russian military airbase in Engels, Saratov region. An air alert was announced in the area of the Russian military airfield, a video with siren sounds was published on local social media.

In the morning, the Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country stated that approximately 1:35 a.m. Moscow time, or 0:35 a.m. Kyiv time, a Ukrainian drone was allegedly shot down while approaching the Engels military airbase. Three servicemen were killed as a result of its wreckage falling, the military equipment was not damaged.

“As a result of the fall of the drone wreckage, three Russian servicemen of technical staff, who were at the airfield, received mortal wounds,” the invaders said.

Russian strategic bombers take an active part in Russia’s regular missile attacks on Ukraine, in particular on energy and infrastructure facilities.

Today, on December 29, Russia launched another missile attack on the territory of Ukraine. Around 7:00 a.m., Kh-101/Kh-555 air-launched cruise missiles were fired from the Tu-95MS strategic bomber jets in the Volgodonskiy district of the Rostov region and the northern region of the Caspian Sea.

According to the Air Force Command of Ukraine, enemy forces fired approximately 69 missiles.
