Northrop Grumman has presented Valen, a new multifunctional active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar for aircraft and UAVs.

Northrop Grumman announced this in a press release.

The new radar is said to be lighter, more compact, and more affordable than previous versions. Valen combines radar, electronic warfare, and communications capabilities in a single integrated solution for manned and unmanned platforms.

Valen is manufactured using 3D printing and digital design, reducing production time.

Advanced microelectronics packaging technologies from the Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center enable the integration of multiple semiconductor components into a single micromodule. As a result, the device operates faster, requires less cooling, and consumes less energy in a more compact form factor.

Valen is built to modern open-architecture standards, and its hardware and software combine the capabilities of the company’s advanced sensors, enabling rapid system updates.

The radar has already successfully completed flight tests on Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft owned by this American company.
