The Lithuanian Armed Forces have received a batch of new Renault D trucks with a payload capacity of up to five tonnes, the country’s Ministry of National Defense said.
The vehicles were procured by the ministry’s Defense Resources Agency under a contract with UAB Volvo Lietuva.
The total value of the deal is €16.2 million.
The trucks will be used for military logistics, cargo transportation, and training purposes.
Some of the Renault D trucks have also been delivered to Ukraine as part of Lithuania’s bilateral support under the Demining Coalition led by Vilnius.
“Renault Ds are high-capacity all-wheel-drive trucks designed to transport various cargo and equipment. These 5-tonne vehicles ensure reliable operation in tough conditions and are known for their durability and efficiency,” the defense ministry said.
Modernizing the logistics fleet is among the top priorities for the Lithuanian Armed Forces, aimed at improving operational readiness and mobility.
This latest purchase supports the formation of the army’s 1st Division.
“Logistics capabilities are a critical component in strengthening divisional capacities as without reliable and mobile vehicles, it is impossible to ensure the effective operation of the military,” the ministry said.
In building the division, the focus will extend beyond combat platforms to include support systems such as logistics and transportation.
Lithuanian artillery personnel have also begun training on U.S.-made HIMARS rocket systems, with assistance from American troops.
