Lithuanian drone manufacturer Granta Autonomy and German defense contractor Rheinmetall have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop situational awareness systems for military vehicles, the companies announced on May 7.
The agreement, signed during the Baltic Miltech Summit in Vilnius, outlines plans to integrate unmanned aerial systems into ground-based combat platforms to enhance battlefield awareness.
The deal also includes provisions for technology exchange, joint development of operational concepts, and incorporating lessons learned from Ukraine’s combat experience.

Lithuania’s ministers of defense and economy formally endorsed the agreement.
A demonstration of the first joint technological solutions developed under the partnership is scheduled for May 8 in Pabradė, according to Rheinmetall Electronics and Granta Autonomy.
Granta Autonomy is a Lithuanian technology firm focused on autonomous systems for aerial and ground platforms.
The company sources components for its FPV drones from Ukrainian manufacturers.
As noted by the company’s CEO Gediminas Guoba, finding the necessary components on the global market is becoming increasingly difficult.
That is why, from the very beginning, Granta Autonomy turned its attention to the Ukrainian market, where it managed to establish mass production of key parts.
Currently, the company continues to purchase engines in China, but is actively studying the possibility of switching to Ukrainian analogues. According to Guoba, purchases in China actually mean “feeding a potential enemy.”
He also emphasized the importance of supporting companies that deploy production of critical components directly on-site — that is, in partner states that share common threats and values.
