Lithuania is ready to send troops to Ukraine as part of a potential international peacekeeping mission following a ceasefire.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said this in an interview with Bloomberg.

“My country is ready to provide the necessary support. We are talking about very concrete numbers of our military troops, but there should be commitment from all countries in this coalition to provide this support,” he said.

The Lithuanian President also praised US President Donald Trump for his sincere intentions to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. However, he noted that Vladimir Putin was only pretending to negotiate while continuing his attacks.

“So far Russia is imitating the negotiations, talking about a possible peace and possible ceasefire, but they are not even ready to keep the ceasefire as promised not to attack, not to strike critical infrastructure,” Nauseda added.

In early March, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys mentioned that the government had not ruled out the possibility of sending Lithuanian peacekeepers to Ukraine.

He stated that such a decision would depend on the stance of major powers on that initiative, which would take a leading role in supporting the peacekeeping mission.

The Telegraph reported the day before that the UK was ready to take on a leading role in providing air protection for the international peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine.

According to sources, the British Air Force may deploy Eurofighter Typhoon or F-35 fighters. British Ground Forces, including Special Forces, could also be sent to the peacekeeping mission.

Portugal has also not ruled out sending its military personnel as part of the European peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.

In addition, Denmark is prepared to join the mission if the need arises. Canada, Australia, and Ireland are also considering sending peacekeepers.

Turkey recently made a similar statement, indicating that it would discuss the issue with all interested parties if deemed necessary to ensure regional stability and peace.
