Honduras is planning to buy drones from Ukraine to fight illegal drug trafficking and improve border security.

President Nasri Asfura announced this, according to Euronews.

While speaking to journalists in Panama City at an Organization of American States meeting, he stated that drones could help authorities monitor remote areas and detect criminal activity.

“This regards drones to protect our borders, to improve border security, and to fight organized crime using advanced technology,” he noted.

Last week, Asfura met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

During the talks, the Ukrainian president proposed cooperation in the military field, particularly in drone technology, as Ukraine seeks to expand partnerships beyond Europe.

“Today, in military technology, especially drone technology, Ukraine is one of the strongest in the world. We are ready to help those who help us,” Zelenskyy said.

The purchase of Ukrainian drones is part of Honduras’ broader efforts to strengthen security cooperation with foreign partners.
