U.S. President Donald Trump announced the creation of a new branch of the U.S. Armed Forces called the AI Force.

He made the announcement on September 19 in a post on the social media platform Truth Social.

The new branch will focus on developing artificial intelligence for military applications and processing large volumes of data.

The U.S. President did not provide details about the new organization, including its structure, powers, size, or when it will be established.

The initiative comes as competition between the United States and China in artificial intelligence continues to grow. The U.S. administration already considers AI an important part of national security.

Trump also said he plans to appoint a new head of the artificial intelligence portfolio.

This would be the second appointment at this level in his administration. The role was previously held by venture capitalist David Sacks, who later moved to an external advisory role.

On June 5, 2026, Trump signed a memorandum on using artificial intelligence in the national security sector.

The document calls for accelerating the deployment of advanced AI models across military and intelligence agencies, creating secure computing infrastructure, and establishing a reserve of AI specialists.

Militarnyi previously reported that the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) was preparing its largest internal reorganization in at least a decade.

The plan calls for the creation of five new organizational divisions at the agency’s headquarters in Fort Meade: artificial intelligence, China, cybersecurity, combat support, and global intelligence.

Each division will be headed by a separate “mission director,” who will effectively have authority equivalent to that of an NSA deputy director.

The new structure is expected to begin implementation in October, with full operational capability expected by January 2027.

Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether the new centers will replace existing NSA units or be added to the agency’s current structure.
