Germany to Prepare Children for Possible War With Russia

The German Ministry of the Interior has addressed the preparation of young people for a potential war with Russia.

According to Handelsblatt, the focus is on educating school-age children, providing them with a foundational understanding of weapons, their various types, and their intended purposes.

Meanwhile, CDU politician Roderich Kiesewetter suggests implementing emergency preparedness training for students.

In his opinion, a national emergency could lead to chaos among young people who would not know how to respond in such a situation.

As an example, he cites Finland, where this practice has been in place for decades, providing students with basic knowledge and practical skills.

At the same time, the Ministry of the Interior notes that while the federal states are responsible for determining the curriculum in schools, the federal government and the Federal Office for Civil Protection are ready to assist with materials for young people and teachers.

It is worth noting that over the past two years, there have been ongoing discussions in Germany about increasing the combat readiness of armed forces and reinstating conscription due to the insufficient number of military personnel in the armed forces.

In addition, the government has also begun the formation of territorial defense divisions and is working on organizing military registration documentation for reservists in case of the onset of a full-scale war.

Militarnyi previously reported that Germany had created the first territorial defense forces division (Heimatschutzdivision), which would consist of 6000 soldiers.

It was announced that as of April 1, 2025, the German Army had taken command of the Territorial Defense Forces, which were under the control of a separate territorial command.

In peacetime, the new division will be tasked with protecting critical infrastructure such as ports, railroad facilities, pipelines, roads, bridges, etc. It will also facilitate the transfer of troops and help in case of emergencies and natural disasters. However, if necessary, territorial defense will also be used to counter military threats and deter potential attackers.
