Germany will expand its agreement with Israel to supply the Arrow 3 long-range missile defense system, increasing the deal’s value to $3.1 billion.
Israel’s Ministry of Defense announced this on December 17.
According to the Ministry, the expanded agreement will significantly boost the production of Arrow 3 interceptor missiles and launch systems to be delivered to Germany.
As a result, the total value of the deal to supply Arrow 3 missile defense systems to Germany will rise to approximately $6.7 billion, making it the largest export agreement in Israel’s history.
The contract expansion is expected to be signed today, Thursday, December 18.
On December 3, 2025, the first battery of the Arrow 3 missile defense system purchased from Israel officially entered service in Germany.
The system was ordered in 2023 under an intergovernmental agreement between Germany and Israel, with a total value of approximately €3.6 billion.
The missile defense system will be integrated into Germany’s national air defense network.
The procurement and deployment of Arrow 3 in Germany are a response to the threat posed by Russia.
The missile defense system includes a command post, control and management systems, multifunctional radars, and launchers equipped with interceptor missiles.
The mission of this system is to intercept medium- and long-range ballistic missiles at altitudes exceeding 100 kilometers. It can destroy enemy missiles outside Earth’s atmosphere using a direct hit-to-kill method.
The Arrow 3 missile defense systems purchased by Germany from Israel have sufficient range to intercept Iskander ballistic missiles while they are still over Russian territory.
