The Russian service Yandex is trying to hide a missile division located near Kronstadt, not far from St. Petersburg, the Finnish news outlet yle reports.
Instead of simply blurring the object, the service’s developers used photoshop to clone and overlay an image of a forest over the military base.
Previously, Yandex typically only blurred sensitive areas, but this time it decided to completely conceal the very existence of military infrastructure.
Despite being disguised on the Russian service, the missile division remains clearly visible in satellite images from Western platforms such as Google, Apple, and Microsoft.
A hidden site near Kronstadt previously housed “Bastion” coastal missile systems, as well as associated radars and electronic intelligence (ELINT) equipment.
In addition, an electronic warfare (EW) unit was stationed in this part of Kotlin Island, with its positions located at the northwestern tip.
