Germany will allocate an additional €12 billion for military assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Bundestag budget committee approved the request of the German Ministry of Defense and Interior for an additional €12 billion for military support to Ukraine.
Due to high material losses, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need new supplies of material assets.
Additional funding provides €3.2 billion to be paid in 2023 and credit lines for the period 2024 to 2032 worth around €8.8 billion.
This money is allocated for the purchase of products of the defense industrial complex.
“Thanks to this money, Ukraine will be able to directly buy weapons with the support of the German government,” representatives of the German coalition government said in the Bundestag budget committee.
The German Ministry of Defense will be able to start spending this money this year, part of the funds will be allocated for the next year.
According to the German Foreign Ministry, since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, the German government has allocated more than €14.2 billion in support of Ukraine, of which €3 billion — in military assistance to Kyiv.
The committee also adjusted the Bundeswehr budget for the current year, which allows for a faster start to the resupply of weapons and ammunition.
Previously, German journalists reported about the letter from the German Ministry of Finance to the Budget Committee of the Bundestag. The letter stated that the additional costs under this article were “objectively inevitable”. The cause of such inevitability was “a serious risk that Ukraine will give up in the fight against Russian aggression, with unpredictable consequences for the European world order.”
Recall that the Leopard 2А6 tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles promised by Germany have already arrived in Ukraine.
