The first batch of U.S.-made HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems has arrived in Estonia, the U.S. Embassy in Tallinn announced on its official Facebook page.
According to published photos, the delivery includes three launchers that will initially be used for training new personnel.
Estonia has ordered a total of six HIMARS units as part of an effort to bolster its defense capabilities.
The $500 million contract, signed in December 2022, includes not only the launchers but also GMLRS rocket munitions, communications equipment, personnel training, and logistical and technical support.
Estonia’s M142 systems will also be equipped with M57 ATACMS operational-tactical missiles, capable of striking targets at distances of up to 300 km.
U.S. defense contractor Lockheed Martin officially transferred the systems to Estonia in January 2025. The handover ceremony took place in the state of Arkansas.
In 2024, the defense ministers of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania agreed to jointly operate the HIMARS platforms.
Together, the three Baltic states have ordered a total of 20 launchers from the United States. The systems will be armed with both guided rockets and short-range tactical missiles.
HIMARS launchers have played a prominent role in Ukraine, where they have been used to strike Russian targets, including air defense systems, command centers, and supply routes.
