The Kuibyshev oil refinery in Samara, Russia, halted oil processing after a drone attack on the morning of June 10.
According to Reuters, citing sources in the oil and gas industry, the strike caused significant damage to refinery equipment and sparked fires at the facility.
The sources said the damage was severe enough to force the refinery to suspend operations, and the plant is currently unable to function.
In particular, the strike damaged both of the refinery’s main crude oil distillation units — AVT-4 and AVT-5.
Each unit has a processing capacity of approximately 10,000 metric tons of crude oil per day, equivalent to about 73,000 barrels per day.
The Kuibyshev oil refinery is one of the largest oil-industry facilities in the region and is part of Rosneft.
The oil refinery has a design processing capacity of approximately 7 million metric tons of crude oil per year. It primarily produces gasoline and diesel fuel, as well as aviation kerosene (jet fuel) and fuel oil. The facility is considered an important fuel producer, including for the Russian military.
The drone strike on the facility occurred on the morning of June 10, after which several fires were reported on the refinery’s premises.
The oil refinery had already been targeted earlier this year, in January. In addition, it suspended operations following a UAV attack in August 2025.
Previously, in March 2024, attack drones damaged one of the processing units at the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery, also forcing the plant to halt production.
During the night of June 11, drones operated by the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Afipsky Oil Refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, triggering a major fire at the facility.
The refinery is one of the largest oil-processing plants in southern Russia, with a design processing capacity of more than 6 million metric tons of crude oil per year.
