In 2025, Ukraine has already received one million large-caliber ammunition as part of the Czech Initiative.

This was announced by Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.

“I can inform you that as of today, through the Czech Initiative, we have already delivered one million units of large-caliber ammunition to Ukraine this year,” he wrote.

Fiala also noted the coordination of positions with U.S. President Donald Trump and welcomed the participation of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance in the meeting of the Coalition of the willing, for whom it was the first time he had attended the format.

The Czech Initiative has been implemented since April 2024. The program involves the purchase of shells in third countries and their delivery to Ukraine.

The first batch purchased under this program was delivered in June last year.

According to the plans announced earlier by Czech President Petr Pavel, at least 1.8 million shells are to be delivered to Ukraine in 2025 as part of the initiative.

The initiative was presented on February 20, 2024, at the Munich Security Conference. At that time, Pavel announced the possibility of purchasing 800,000 shells.

The goal of the program is to promptly provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine with ammunition, overcoming the legal restrictions that exist in a number of donor countries.

Requests and purchases are coordinated by Inter-Governmental Defence Cooperation Agency (AMOS). Private companies look for affordable batches of ammunition, and donors decide which ones to fund.

In 2024, Ukraine received about 1.5 million artillery shells of various calibers. Czech President Petr Pavel noted that in 2025 that figure could increase to 1.8 million.

The Czech government has already confirmed that it would continue to supply artillery ammunition to Ukraine under the program in 2026.
