Italy Tests New TESEO MK2/E Anti-Ship Missile

MBDA has successfully conducted a test launch of the new TESEO MK2/E anti-ship missile for the Italian Navy.

During the test, the missile remained in controlled cruise flight for approximately 20 minutes, allowing it to validate its stated range, MBDA reported.

The successful test paves the way for completion of the development phase and the transition to serial production. The first missile deliveries to the Italian Navy are scheduled for 2028.

TESEO MK2/E

Development of the TESEO MK2/E began in 2021 following a contract with Italy’s National Armaments Directorate. In 2025, the parties signed an agreement for its serial production. The new missile is the next-generation member of the TESEO family, also known internationally as OTOMAT.

The weapon is being developed to arm new PPA multipurpose offshore patrol vessels, future DDX destroyers, FREMM-class frigates and Orizzonte-class destroyers. The system will also be integrated with new FREMM EVO frigates, with potential deliveries to international customers.

The missile is equipped with a new radar seeker featuring an active electronically scanned array (AESA).

It can engage both naval and land targets at ranges of more than 350 km. One of the missile’s key advantages is the ability to control its flight in real time via a satellite communications link.
