Authorities in Poland have discovered containers with weapons on the grounds of a flying club in Liashki, Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
According to Defence24, eight containers were found at a technical site within the flying club.
The area was placed under immediate guard after the discovery.
Jacek Dobrzynski, spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reported that the containers belong to a private company licensed to trade in weapons.
“The containers hold anti-aircraft weapons, including some launchers,” Dobrzynski said.
He noted that the warehouse was unguarded at the time, prompting an investigation.
The district prosecutor’s office confirmed that an investigation has been underway since May 27 into the illegal possession and storage of weapons and ammunition.
According to unofficial reports, the case involves air defense systems that were meant to be delivered to Ukraine under a commercial contract.
For reasons currently unknown, the delivery was not completed, RMF24 reported.
The journalists added that while the site was initially secured, it was later left largely unguarded.
“This company was instructed to transport anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine. For reasons that remain unclear, it failed to do so,” the prosecutor’s office stated.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the containers are being transported to a designated location. While not confirmed, it is believed they may contain man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS). Since 2022, Poland’s defense industry has been producing Piorun MANPADS for Ukraine.
